Check this: Our class rings are cool, but I had wished that the stone was made from cz instead of whatever was used. Cubic zirconia is often used as a diamond substitue since it is way less expensive than the real thing. But what I love about this synthetic stone is the ability to get it in many different colors and that it is even more sparkly than diamonds. Cubic zirconia gemstones also can be cut differently from diamonds. Their facet edges can be rounded or "smooth". When you wear fashionable cubic zirconia rings they look every bit as gorgeous as rings with real gemstones. My favorite site on the web that offers CZ jewelry have what I consider the best variety and selection in cz rings. Maybe next year someone can convince the school to buy cz gemstone graduation class rings. Oh, I will be soooo jealous, if they do.

Okkodo High School: A Comprehensive Overview
Okkodo High School, established in 2008, is a public secondary institution located in Dededo, Guam. It operates under the Guam Department of Education (GDOE) and serves students from grades 9 through 12. The school's motto, "Excellence by Choice," reflects its commitment to providing quality education and fostering a respectful learning environment.
History and Establishment
The construction of Okkodo High School was part of a $78 million initiative by Iron Bridge Capital in October 2006, aimed at building four new schools in Guam. The project included a 12,744-square-foot gymnasium equipped with modern sports facilities to accommodate various athletic events. The school officially opened its doors on August 24, 2008, initially serving approximately 1,500 students, which exceeded its intended capacity by 300 students.
Campus and Facilities
Situated on a 62-acre campus along Route 3 in Dededo, Okkodo High School offers a range of facilities to support both academic and extracurricular activities. In July 2014, a $21.8 million expansion project, known as the Freshmen Academy, increased the school's capacity from 1,200 to 2,000 students. This expansion added 23 standard classrooms, seven science labs, an electronics lab, a drama lab, and four special education resource classrooms. Additionally, the project included the construction of a culinary arts classroom and laboratory, featuring a commercial-grade kitchen for culinary training.
Academic Programs
Okkodo High School offers a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with the Guam Education Board policy, requiring students to earn 24 credits and complete 55 hours of service learning to graduate. Students can choose between a college preparatory path, which includes four years of English, social studies, math, and science, and a career path that requires four years of English and three years of math, science, and social studies. The school also provides several honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses to challenge students academically.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs
In partnership with the Guam Community College, Okkodo High School offers various CTE programs designed to equip students with practical skills for the workforce or further education. These programs include Automotive Services, Carpentry, Electronics, Marketing (DECA), and Tourism (Lodging Management Program and ProStart). Notably, in May 2017, the school's ProStart team secured second place in the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation's ProStart National Competition in Charleston, South Carolina.
Extracurricular Activities
The school encourages student participation in a variety of extracurricular activities, including academic competitions like the Academic Challenge Bowl and Mock Trial. Athletically, Okkodo High School is a member of the Guam Department of Education Interscholastic Sports Association (ISA), offering sports such as basketball, volleyball, golf, tennis, baseball, paddling, football, cross country, rugby, track and field, and wrestling. The campus features facilities to support these activities, including fields and courts for various sports and a recently renovated track and field area.
Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (MCJROTC)
Since the 2009–2010 school year, Okkodo High School has hosted the island's first and only MCJROTC program. This program focuses on developing students' citizenship and leadership skills, promoting discipline, responsibility, and teamwork. In 2012, the MCJROTC team achieved notable success by winning first place in the regulation drill competition at the National High School Drill Team Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Accreditation and Recognition
Okkodo High School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The school earned its initial three-year accreditation in early 2012 and received another three-year accreditation in 2015, reflecting its commitment to maintaining high educational standards.
Community Engagement and Cultural Significance
The school's name, "Okkodo," is derived from the Chamorro word for "trap" and honors a Chamorro chief who resided in the village of Dededo. This connection underscores the school's cultural significance within the local community. Okkodo High School actively engages with the community through various events and programs, fostering a sense of pride and collaboration among students, staff, and residents.
Okkodo High School stands as a testament to Guam's dedication to providing quality education and fostering student development. With its robust academic programs, diverse extracurricular activities, and strong community ties, the school continues to uphold its motto, "Excellence by Choice," preparing students for success in the 21st century.
